John was an apostle of Jesus, son of Zebedee and brother of James the Greater. Originally from Galilee, John was a fisherman before following Jesus. He was known as the “beloved disciple” and participated in many important events in Jesus’ life, such as the transfiguration and the prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane. He was the only apostle present at Jesus’ crucifixion and received Mary as his mother from Jesus himself.
After Jesus’ death, John preached in Asia Minor and wrote the fourth Gospel and the Revelation during his exile on Patmos. He is considered one of the four evangelists and died in Ephesus at an advanced age.
