Mark, also known as John Mark, was an important disciple of Peter and Paul. He was probably born in Palestine or Cyprus around 20 A.D.. Mark is famous for writing the Gospel of Mark, one of the four canonical Gospels, which is considered the oldest and the shortest. He was a missionary with Paul and later became a faithful collaborator of Peter, helping him write his teachings. Mark founded the Church of Alexandria in Egypt and became its first bishop. He is revered as a saint and patron of Venice.
